WELCOME TO THE OPEN PARLIAMENT
The Open Parliament’s purpose is to become the medium through which people seek to engage in politics. It aims to empower people through a knowledge-based democratic system. Individuals can directly influence party policy decisions that reflect their personal views, thereby enhancing their part in the democratic system as a whole.
It is our belief that people have the potential to be inspirational and innovative in generating sound, workable ideas, from local issues to national government policy and even international concerns. There is a vast, untapped resource in the country that can add great value to the quality of political decisions, and that resource is human creativity.
HOW IT WORKS
In bringing democracy to your screen, we aim to emulate the Parliamentary legislative process, with our Members and Executive acting as 'Houses'.
The policy making process will not take place on one thread of this forum, but will be divided into separate sections for each area of debate. This method will ensure that the process can be followed from start to finish in accordance with the Democratic Reform Party's structure. Open Parliament users will have an integral link to the party and will be able to access archives of past policy formulation and view debates over proposed policy changes.
A in-depth structure can be found on the Democratic Reform website.
DO I HAVE TO BE A DEMOCRATIC REFORM MEMBER TO BE INVOLVED?
Not at all. The Open Parliament is open to anyone wishing to participate in a debate. In the first instance, registered users of this site will have the opportunity to act as members to enhance the debate, and can choose to stay on as members of the Party should they wish. At this early stage, we want as many people to be involved in policy formulation as possible.
In the future, public users will be able to register to the open boards and contribute through petitions and explain the reasons why they want it to be considered a mandated policy.
WHAT WILL THE END PRODUCT BE?
Unlike other political parties, and unlike other Direct-Democracy groups based online, the relationship of the Online Parliament with the Democratic Reform Party allows for you views to be represented by a political party through a legislative process. Through this transparency, the Democratic Reform Party can represent your views directly, and are held to account by those who provide input.
Don't be forced to have others make your choices for you. Register now and get involved!
